Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has said that he is proud of Nigeria’s under 17 male national team, the Golden Eaglets for their sterling performance in their semifinal match against Sweden in the ongoing FIFA Under-17 World Cup holding in the United Arab Emirates.

The Golden Eaglets on Tuesday qualified for the final of the competition by beating their Sweden counterparts 3-0. They had earlier drawn 3-3 with Sweden in the group stages.

Taiwo Awoniyi scored Nigeria’s opening goal in the 21st minute of the first half.

The stiff opposition mounted by the Swedes after the goal failed to fetch them the equalizer.

Until Samuel Okon fired in the Eaglets second goal in the second half with a left foot cracker while Chidi Ezeh tapped in a minute later to seal the Swedes hope of making it to the final of the competition.

An elated Governor Imoke on his facebook timeline yesterday wrote: “Tremendous effort and energy by the Golden Eaglets last night and I am very proud of them.

“Hopefully we can physically support them during the finals on Friday evening if everything goes well….. Calabar certainly is a lucky ground for our national teams”
