Mr. Rekpene Bassey, the Cross River State Security Adviser, has called on the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to work closely with other security agencies in the state to reduce the crime rate to a single digit.
Mr. Rekpene Bassey said this on Monday while handing over a Toyota Hilux van to Dr E.E Benito the Cross River State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps at the Government House in Calabar. “It is hoped that the issuance of this support would further strengthen the NSCDC in performance of their statutory operation in the state.
“Governor Liyel Imoke has specifically tasked and directed that NSCDC should work in close concert, coordination, cooperation and collaboration with other security agencies in the state to do everything tactically and strategically possible to either completely eradicate or reduce crime rate in Calabar South to a single digit”
He promised that the state government would within the limits of its resources continue to support security agencies in order to make them function maximally.
Bassey urged public spirited individuals and corporate bodies to support government in the sustenance and promotion of peace, security and prevention of crime through the donation of cash and in-kind to the state security trust fund.

Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the command, the state commandant, Dr. E.E Benito, promised that the operational vehicle would be used strictly for the purpose it was given.
Benito said the vehicle would help to step up NSCDC operations in most parts of the state.
“I want to promise that this vehicle will be used for the purpose it is assigned. It will help us step up security operations within the metropolis and other parts of the state,” he said.
