Former Head of State, and opposition All Progressives Congress, APC Chieftain, General Mohammadu Buhari, GCFR, is billed to chair the launching of a new book, “Power Struggles and Corruption – De-Consolidating Democracy in Nigeria” co-authored by Cross River lawyer, Okoi Obono-Obla and Glory Okoi-Uyouyo. The launching is scheduled for 22nd May 2014 at the Ladi Kwali Congress Hall, Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.

The new book seeks to define democratic consolidation as a stage in the process of transition from dictatorial to democratic systems that are critical to the establishment of a stable, institutional and long-lasting democracy while juxtaposing democratic de-consolidation on the other hand as factors which when present, threaten the existence or long-term security of new democracies.

In the well commended narrative, Okoi Obono-Obla and Glory Okoi-Uyouyo examine the failure of the political class to stand for the principles of democracy, good governance and constitutionalism in the early years of democratic rule in Nigeria after years of military rule.

When commending the book, Professor Tam David West said, “It requires singular courage, solid commitment to the anti-corruption crusade and great intrepidity to write a formal book against corruption.

“This is what Glory Okoi-Uyouyo and Okoi Obono Obla have courageously done in their well researched, comprehensive, well packaged and very easy to read work, a product of uncanny intrepidity (suicidal), singular courage and honest commitment to a better Nigeria, to every Nigerian as well as all genuine lovers of Nigeria. It is a must read”.
