Councilors in the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State have denied adopting any one candidate for the Senatorial seat in 2015 as claimed in a newspaper publication.

A statement signed by Hon. Namgbe Blessing Abene, the Leader of the Ikom Legislative Council stated that during a visit by some councilors in the district to Hon Owan Eno they only complained about their non inclusion in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Caucus in the Senatorial District which was the business that took them there .

“We went there to complain against our non inclusion in the PDP Caucus in the Central Senatorial District because it will be unfair for the representatives of the people at the grassroots to be left out in the process of choosing those who would stand as candidates in the 2015 election”
.
According to the councilor the report smacks of naivety in political issues because without their inclusion in the Caucus, they cannot vote and as such their purported adoption of anyone as candidate for the election will be immaterial since they cannot vote for him. “We are yet to be included in the Caucus so how can we adopt anybody for an election which we cannot decide?”

Hon Abene stated that the claim by the publication that fifty eight out of the sixty councilors in the district went on the visit is also wrong because the group picture taken after the visit shows all those who were there and only nineteen people are seen in the picture” How can fifty eight people attend a function and in the group picture only nineteen appear?”

The Leader said the publication should not be taken seriously because it is meant to cast the councilors in bad light “anyone who seeks to back any of the aspirants does so in his own personal capacity; we are elected to serve the people and as such have to work with every of our elected and appointed leaders to bring the dividends of democracy to our people so we cannot single out one person as the chosen one in an election which ,many people are likely to contest.”

  • The leader of Ikom legislature does not know what she is writing,The entire councillors from Abi,Yakkurr,Obubra,Etung,9 from Boki,5 from Ikom where in attendance for d adoption meeting of Rt Hon.John Owan Enoh. She’s among d six(6)Ikom councillors that where absent from that meeting. So there is no iota of truth in her statement.
