The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Cross River State has confirmed the names of 5 aspirants as winners of the first round of the screening exercise which the party caucuses conducted across the 18 local government areas.
During the screening exercise, assessment forms were given to the caucus members to score the aspirants based on their presentations to the caucuses.
The party gave a benchmark that any of the candidates who does not score an aggregate of 70 and above will be eliminated from the first round.
Having collated all the forms from the various caucuses and computed the scores, the party says only five of the candidates were able to make the benchmark. They include: Legor Idagbo, Mike Aniah, Fidelis Ugbo, Ben Ayade and Larry Odey.
Out of a total of 18 aspirants who procured the Intent Forms, only 13 procured the Admin Data Form which the party said was a prerequisite for the caucus screening thus only the 13 participated in the first round of the screening exercise.
The party added that modalities are being put in place for the second round of the screening exercise expected to commence on Monday.
In an exclusive interview with CrossRiverWatch, the Publicity Secretary of PDP in Cross River State, Mr. Joe Obi Bisong said: “We started with 18 aspirants, Legor Idagbo, Mike Aniah, Fidelis Ugbo, Ben Ayade and Larry Odey, Patrick Ugbe, Gerald Adah, Peter Ojie, Tanko Ashang, Father Francis Eworo, Stanley Ubi, Emmanuel Ibeshi, Alice Achi, Fidel Egoro, Peter Oti, Francis Bullem, Joe Agi and Jedy Agba who indicated interest. 5 didn’t buy Data Form, 13 bought Data Admin Forms.
“These 13 people appeared before the various caucuses across the state and the caucuses scored them and sent the results of the scores to us to compute. So we had to compute the results in 18 councils to find an average.
“So we got an average and whoever has below 70 automatically has dropped. So those who have 70 and above were among the first 5. We are now putting modalities together for the second round which will begin on Monday and further eliminate the number to 3 and eventually, we hope to forge a consensus.”
The party leadership met with the aspirants at government house in Calabar by 4pm and later with the PDP stakeholders across the state by 7pm at Peregrino House yesterday evening to brief them on the development.
Most of the aspirants accepted their fate and congratulated their colleagues who made the benchmark.
But Mr. Emmanuel Ibeshi expressed dissatisfaction with the process and made it clear that he has not finished his consultations and said the party was too hasty to pass judgment on him particularly considering the fact that he has not made his presentation to the caucuses.

Worthy of note that the incumbent governor of Cross River State who incidentally is also a lawyer is not on your list of best performing governors, what has he done for Cross River State in 8 years?.. and yet Cross Riverians want to let him handpick a successor…..why should Cross Riverians trust his judgement and allow his imposition? Let the people decide in a free and fair contest.
The people must decide NOT a cross-section of selfish/hungry brains who’s idea about politics is CHOP I CHOP; NA OUR TIME. The State needs the best….
This is blessing and. A good name for my great people of Bekwarra, that one of our beloved sons has made it 2d no. 1 position of our our dear state. But my fear is,for d incunent 2 select, hand pick, choose nd ordain barr. Legor(among his equals) as his successor, u can’t predict dir political agenda. Because, d polity nd policy of Nigerian politicians is “God Fatherizm” we put u der, so u must do our biddings, nd submit 2d “secret n Evil” agenda of d party’s stake holders in d state dat puts u in power, 2 d detriment nd lack of development of the state interest.Because, Loyalty n Submission is dir watch word. But,If Legor will b of a Godly mind, n put his people n d state’s interest HIGH n Above d agenda dat his party godfathers will super-imposed on him, he’ll write his Name on d tablet of stone in d anal of history of our state.
Let him take d cue from d developmental program of gov Fashola of Lagos, which pple can see, touch n feel n comment. Despite his high handedness of Lagosians, n d political Schemes of his godfather (Bola Tinubu)what Fashola did 4 Lagosians can not b overlooked,even bt d opposition parties. We are solidly behind Legor, but let him know dat d Cross River agenda is NOT like d Chairmanship of Bekwarra LGA, which he once rule.if he will not use d state allocation 2 settle godfathers, and award contracts 2 d party’s stakeholders only, who will pocket d money n abandone d projets, but if he’ll take d Crossriver’s projet as his Assignment, n pledge total allegiance 2 its development, den, he is good 2 Go, n we’re following him 2 make CRS d people’s Paradise dat she’s ordained 2be by Jehovah!! Legor is imoke’s agenda and it very sad that imoke assessement of crosss river state is from is parohial perspective installing his stooge is a deliberate and selfish plan to draw the state backward legor had no capacity to govern cross river.imoke does not mean well for cross river.cross river is bigger than legor and the imoke’s cheap agenda.God will rubbish their selfish plan.
Legor Idagbo is d right Man 4 d Governorship of Cross River State. We need a young Man who is tested not all d money bags who wants to buy our votes. D best performing Governors are Lawyers. Fashola, Akpabio, Duke, Chime, Rochas amongs others. Lawyers have good sense of judgement. Let’s support Legor Idagbor please
