ADVERTORIAL
PRESS RELEASE
GOV. IMOKE IS INTIMIDATING AND INDUCING INEC OFFICIALS AND PARTY AGENTS TO CHANGE RESULTS!
After the initial delay, following the malfunctioning of the newly introduced Card Reader, the first phase of the 2015 Elections has held despite all odds and we thank God that it went peacefully in many places.
But with the results collated from different polling units showing the genuine wishes of the people, the likely losers that have always benefited from the old order are out trying to subvert the genuine wishes of the people expressed through the ballot.
To be very definite, we want to put on record that Labour Party having participated in the National Assembly elections of March 28th, 2015 with candidates in all the positions in Cross River State, also had our party agents accordingly in all polling units in the State. So far, the results from the units has clearly shown that Labour Party and our Candidates has been accepted as the Credible Alternative to lead Cross River in the next dispensation and offer good and better governance for the people.
Unfortunately, the incumbent government of the PDP in the state led by the governor himself has sensed the imminent defeat of his party in many National Assembly seats in the state; both the Senate seat and the House of Representative seats. Now reports has it that he has moved in with full security force; a combined force of the police and the military to intimidate people, including party agents and INEC collation officers to subvert the wishes of the people. We will not accept any short change of the wish of the people with the announcement of the result that is different from what was collated from various polling units.
In Itigidi and Adadama, both in Abi Local Government Area and in Ekori in Yakurr LGA, we have it on record that the state governor, moving with military cover, is trying to use both inducement and intimidation to cause INEC to announce different results. In Biase, especially in Ikun there was massive rigging as it was reported that elections were hijacked and the materials taken to unknown destination in collaboration with INEC staff, this is a total disregard of the people’s rights. We will not accept such. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH Cross Riverians have spoken through the Ballot and we stand by that!
The same attempt in Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency is also in effect by the governor and his party stalwarts in Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency. The three Senatorial districts across the State are also a target by the PDP because Labour party has taken the lead from the results made available from different units.
We are aware that PDP mobilized people from Calabar South and quartered them in the Akpabuyo private home of Barrister Edem Ekong, the Special Adviser on Public transport to the governor. They moved to manipulate and rig the outstanding elections in two wards in Akpabuyo.
We specifically call on Prof. Jega, the INEC boss to call the state Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State to order and by extension, he should call his subordinates at the Local Government levels to order.
Labour Party is keen and ready to offer Cross River State an effective and rewarding representation at the National Assembly, the Governorship and the State Assembly. We reject any attempt to change the will of the people of Cross River State!
