The Obol Lopon of Ekori, HRH Donatus I. Ofem has assured that he and his Council of Traditional Rulers were working round the clock to ensure that peace return to Ekori land after the political crisis that led to the death of three persons.
Obol Lopon Ofem who stated this when he received the representative of the governor in his palace, the Special Adviser, Orientation and Public affairs, Professor Osam Edim Temple, who was on a peace mission to the area after the crisis said that he and his council members were sad over the happenings of the past few days which they regarded as sacrilegious, and that what happened was the work of politicians and not an ordinary Ekori man or women, stressing that as it happened those who were responsible were in Abuja and other places.
The Royal Father disclosed that they were just coming out of a crucial meeting to find a lasting solution to what had happened and to ensure that lasting peace is restored to Ekori, adding that schools, markets, hospitals businesses were closed as a result of the crisis, and that he himself was greatly affected because his son, a Corporal in the Police who was shot dead by armed robbers in Calabar two Saturdays ago was to be buried yesterday but the conflict could not allow them to do so.
He explained that on that fateful day he was told that a party wanted to hold a rally and another was preventing them from doing so, and he sent emissaries to tell them to allow the other party to carry out their rally but to no avail, and from there crisis erupted.
Obol Lopon Ofem disclosed that since Wednesday afternoon, the situation became calm there was no longer shooting, and thanked God that the situation was returning to normal and also applauded the Police for the wonderful work, while also advising his subjects to remain calm and go about their lawful duties and those fomenting trouble to give peace a chance.
