One of the dispatch riders attached to the convoy of Cross River’s governor Benedict Ayade has suffered a broken neck after crashing en route to Enugu state.

The rider, a policeman whose name CrossRiverWatch gathered only as Emmanuel, was among the five dispatch riders in the convoy which was traveling to Enugu from Calabar to join the governor to Yala local government area for the burial of the late former governor of the state, Dr. Mathias Offoboche.

CrossRiverWatch learnt the unfortunate incident occurred at Abomeghe in Ebonyi state around the Julius Berger quarry site located along the Afikpo road.

According to sources in Government House, Emma was amongst the “Shaders” and was on high speed and upon learning there was a sharp bend, could not manoeuvre the bike to turn which led to the crash.

The medical team in the convoy stopped to render emergency treatment with one of the riders asked to stay put and lead the ambulance back to the general hospital in Ugep for further medical attention before heading straight for Yala.

CrossRiverWatch later gathered from sources in the government house clinic that Emma broke his neck but is in a stable condition and will be “up soon.”

Security details also disclosed that the governor was sad upon hearing the news but cheered up “a bit” when he learnt Emmanuel’s condition “is not really as bad as one may think”.

He has since been transferred to a specialist hospital for proper medical care while the bike CrossRiverWatch learnt will be sent to the manufacturers (BMW) representatives in Nigeria (Coscharis) for repairs.

There has been mixed reactions to Ayade’s choice of using the bikes which contrary to reports of been 10 to 15 in number are only 6.
