The Obolo Lopon of Ugep, Obol Ofem Ubana has expressed his support for a second term bid for Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade and giving reasons why he will do so too.

Mr. Ayade was recently endorsed by thousands across the three senatorial district areas of the state and despite being threatened with lawsuits and offered money to purchase his nomination form, has kept mute as to his intention though Government House Sources have confirmed that he was wholly in support of the idea of contesting for another tenure.

And, Obol Ofem on Friday while attending to students of the central senatorial district under the aegis of Central Senatorial District Students Association (CENSA) who visited him at his palace to present to him an award of excellence and the title of ‘Ambassador of Peace,’ said that he is supporting Mr. Ayade because he has brilliant ideas.

“The reasons I will support Ben Ayade is because he has brilliant ideas. We need to support him so that he can finish the good projects he has started. In Kogi state, they always owe their staff but Ben Ayade always pays his staff. That is why I was in Ikom to endorse him too,” said Obol Ofem.

He had joined about five other traditional rulers to endorse Mr. Ayade for a second term on February 23, 2018 at the Ikom township stadium.

And, Obol Ofem who solicited the students support for Mr. Ayade noted that: “Four years is not enough to show what the governor can offer. I believe that another four years will bring out the best in him. He will take Cross River to the next level.”

However, he played a bipartisan card by speaking up for, and calling out the Senator representing the senatorial district, John Owan-Enoh when he said that: “Another of our son who has helped to assist our peoples is Owan-Enoh, but he has not told me of his intention in 2019.”

  • Maybe you didn’t read in this very same article that him, an immigrant, won his senatorial post on an anti-immigration platform. Not much different from the indigene vs settlers battles you describe tbh.
