Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo: The Ideal Governor BY PETER OFFEM UBI

ugbo for governor

Every action is preceded by a counter reaction. We are normally advised before we act to think about what effect our actions will have on others.

Because many friends have asked me this very important question: “who takes over from Imoke and what I thought,” it became imperative to engage myself in studying the candidates aspiring to lead Cross River after Liyel Imoke on both political parties.

In carrying out this personal task, I ask myself one question only: Who is the best choice to represent the aspirations of our people?

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately concerning who is best to lead our state into the future with steady hands and continuity on the gains of the Imoke administration. This has been a focus of mine in the last several months. Those who have followed closely my positions know my partisanship and defense in favor of the opposition APC.

My honest followers know equally, I am one who remains with an open mind to new ideas and possibilities, and a person committed to what is best about politics.

Obviously the national mood is that of election year politics, we are already close to decision time, choices will be made of us as to where we pitch our interest. Politics after all is about interest – that interest to me is about good governance for my state. The peoples’ business is equitable governance.

As one who has carefully and closely followed three campaigns, it is rather difficult to chose one because I consider all three very serious.

The Legor, Goddy, and Ntufam campaigns have effectively organized themselves, they stand out. In the end, a decision must be made on which to support. For full disclosure, I don’t know the candidates personally, I have no direct communication with their campaigns -just one or two conversation with persons supporting either candidates.

Cross Riverians of Nothern Senatorial Zone should take pride in the qualities of aspirants from the zone.

While many are qualified, one man stands assured to continue the gains of the current administration and consolidate on them, in my view.

He is non-other than Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo-once Commissioner in the state, Secretary to the State Government, and then appointed Secretary National Planning Commission by the President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR to help his administration stare the nation into development…till date, it is a position Mr. Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo occupies.

Today I call on friends, fans, progressives, people of light minds, and my dear people of Cross River to join me in supporting Mr. Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo for Governor.

Mr. Ntufam orientation into leadership is highly distinctive, and his is a lifetime of service suitable for our people at this point in time.

Those with whom I have spoken classified Ntufam has operating with a principle taught to him by his parents. It is a well learnt important lesson shared with his siblings early in life that “much is expected of those to whom much has been given”.

Mr. Ntufam has made that his guideline for a life of service lived in both public and the private sector, and it is the operational idea with which an Ntufam government will run and be held accountable by.

Because of the constraints of capital flow from the federal government to our state, the state government must operate with less in trying to improve upon the life conditions of our people through economic management; Ntufam got the experience to do just that.

The Governor is surely one of the most important persons in the State. Each year his decisions affect the hopes, lives of men and women in every local government area, in every town and villages across our beloved Cross River.

In the months and years immediately ahead, the governor will be deciding whether our younger citizens will receive the education they need, whether our older citizens will be properly cared for, whether our retired government workers will get their well deserved pension on time, whether will we push ahead on more electrification of rural areas, whether we will we generate new alternative sources of energy, and if the current system of electricity will flourish or falter, whether our local government areas will get new industries, whether current industries in the state will obtain new contracts and new markets created at home, whether modernization and the acceleration of development would be made more effective, and whether affordable government housing will finally be a reality for the common man.

In taking this important step to support Mr. Ntufam for Governor in the Paradise State, I take this decision in full knowledge of the obstacles we face as a people, with the understanding on charges that will be made of me and his campaign, and the heavy responsibilities of leadership in the office he aspires to.

After close monitoring, talks with citizens, I believe his candidacy best exemplifies the future of Cross River.

And, with the conviction in me, Mr. Ntufam stands tall to win both his party’s nomination and the general Election.

He will best serve the people of our state in this capacity. Be all on notice that in an Ntufam Administration, Cross Riverians have an advocate voice in government. A voice of vigor and authority that will be heard in every corner of our State.

I have sufficient confidence in the people of Cross River to believe it is on the basis of these important issues and nothing else, that they will make their choice of Mr. Ntufam as their Governor.

Others may run Radio or TV advertisement, bombarding social media outlets with all types of hype, what you will get from Ntufam is a clear and decisive leader. A leader who needs no Identification or notifications. Those who say Facebook campaign is no campaign miss the point on the force of social network mobilization.

While many may feel this outlet is one full of insultive or childish mannerisms, it has positively added to the growth of our public dialogue and democracy.

We therefore collectively begin today a campaign on the issues most important to our people.

Support a pledge for continuity under a stable hand, an experienced hand with bold leadership to build the future of Cross River.

Get connected, be a builder of a better and more prosperous Cross River State.
