The Nigeria Police, Cross River state command, has released, Ms. Patience Odey, the principal suspect in the attack on suspended UNICAL lecturer, Mr. Joseph Odok, on bail.

Odok sustained deep cuts in his right shoulder and breast after he was attacked by three armed men at Zanzee bar in Calabar, following an invitation to the bar by, Ms. Patience Odey.

A Director in the Cross River State Homeland Securty Department, Mr. Raphael Odu, has been detained by both the DSS and the Police over suspicions of his involvement in the attack.

The State police PRO, Irene Ugbo and a DSS operative had earlier told CrossRiverWatch that Odok’s attack was not an assassination attempt but connected to a failed visa procurement deal between Odok and Ms. Patience Odey.

DSS and Police investigation later connected, Raphael Odu, who was invited and detained by both agencies and also out on bail.

The police have now asked him to return for additional questioning following claims by Ms. Odey, in her statement to the Police that Raphael Odu personally drove the three guys who attacked Odok to Zanzee bar, was around the neighborhood while the attack lasted and personally drove them away after the attack.

A close relation of Patience who is privy to the details of the matter told our reporter that the Patience’s phone has been taken away from her to ensure she is temporarily kept out of touch with anyone at the moment.

The relation also disclosed that Patience in her statement “told the police the truth about what she knew about the whole incident.

“We all asked her to say the truth and in her statement, she has told the police how Raphael was the person who drove the three guys down to Zanzee in his car, was somewhere watching them during the attack while my sister was hiding in a flower behind and also drove them back after the attack.”

Our source further claimed that Patience also told the police in her statement that Raphael had sought to date her and promised to spend the rest if his life with her.

Raphael had also accepted in an earlier chat with CrossRiverWatch that he was the one who planted Ms. Odey on Odok to be able to arrest him.

A police source who is also connected to the matter, when contacted by this reporter, first expressed shock at how sensitive information from a suspect’s statement got out to the press.

He confirmed the details of the information but threatened that the suspect’s family will be “seriously” cautioned.

Meanwhile, CrossRiverWatch has also been told by the police that, Raphael Odu, was yet to report after his re-invitation.

At the time of filing this report, the police were still expecting him.

His phone has remained switched off since Friday and text messages to the phone have not delivered.
