CALABAR: Ayade Imposes 24 Hour Curfew After Warehouse, LG Council Looting

By Jonathan Ugbal

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River has just announced a 24 hour curfew that began at 6:00PM on Friday following the looting of the COVID19 palliatives warehouse and the Calabar South Local Government council secretariat by angry mob on Friday afternoon.

But, a statement by his spokesman Mr. Christian Ita says it is due to the, “hijacking of the peaceful protest against Police brutality in the State by hoodlums.”

Residents in the State had joined Nigerians to protest against Police brutality in what was now termed the #EndSARS march globally.

A protest held round the 12 kilometer carnival route and ended peacefully.

“The State Governor, Sir Ben Ayade has imposed a 24hr curfew in the State starting from 6pm on Friday, October 23, 2020.

“Residents of the state are advised to observe the curfew as security agents have been mandated to arrest anybody who flouts it.”
