by crossriverwatch admin

The office of the member representing Abi State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly Hon. John Guel Lebo is proposing a bill for a law that will attempt to introduce a new legal regime for Cross River State rent and property control.

To achieve the goal, the members’ office has come up with an engagement strategy that is expected to create an interface.

In a chat with crossriverwatch, Mr. Lebo said: “first, I have already brought a motion on the floor of the house calling on the CRSHA members to adopt a resolution that will advocate for a new legal regime in the Cross River State rent and property sector”.

“Secondly, I intend to commence a public engagement process with all stakeholders in the sector and thereafter present a private member alongside other notable members of the house”.

“In other to be able identify and appreciate all the arguable issues in the sector, I have already sent some of my staff from the constituency to carry out a situation analysis on the sector and the report has been submitted to me with the following recommendations:

1. The need to have an institutional framework in the sector.

2. The state policy framework in the sector must now be reflected in the rent and property control regime.

3. The need to strengthen the existing Legal Regulatory Framework as reflected in the rent control and recovery of premises law of Cross River State”.
