We are on top of the situation – Police
by crossriverwatch admin
There has been palpable apprehension amongst Calabar residents since Sunday night after a notorious Calabar cultist simply known as “Aye-Aye” was allegedly killed by members of a rival cult group.
Crossriverwatch gathered that Aye-Aye who until his death was a member of a gang called MAFF, was said to be relaxing and having a drink at the flour mill rendezvous, a popular “red-light” hang out in Calabar when he got a call at about 10pm inviting him to an unknown location.
While he hurriedly rushed out to meet his callers, he was said to have been accosted by six members of a rival gang who caught up with him at Ekorinim layout in Calabar and shot him at close range severally. The gunshots purportedly did not penetrate Aye-Aye’s body and his assailants were said to have changed their minds and clubbed him to death leaving his blood drenched body by the side of a drainage.
But members of his gang are now spoiling for war and have now sworn that they will make Calabar a hot bed of reprisals and ungovernable. A crossriverwatch reporter heard members of Aye-Aye’s gang at a popular hangout in Calabar threatening to make sure they revenge by killing a minimum of twenty members of the rival gang in reprisals within the next few days.
One of the visibly angry boys who was obviously dishing out orders to the rest said “who ever told them they can kill our own and get away with, it is a liar. The battle line has been drawn. we will know who in government is backing them. We must know! We will make this town ungovernable. we will revenge and not even the police can stop us. Go and tell whoever cares to hear that in the next few days, Calabar will witness blood shed of unimaginable proportion.”
When crossriverwatch contacted the Police, the Cross River State spokesperson of the force DSP Jphn Umoh, told us that it was too early for the police to comment on their level of investigation so as not to jeopardise the process. He assured that the police is working hard to ensure that suspects are arrested and brought to book. Mr. Umoh advised the people of Cross River State to go about their normal businesses without fear saying the police is on top of the security situation in Calabar and will not allow cultists to scuttle the peace that calabar is known for.
He said: “no amount of threats will jeopardise the peace in this State. The police is up to their task and we are doing everything to ensure that no one scuttles the peace we traditionally enjoy in Calabar. This is not the first time we are hearing of such threats but as always, the police will not allow any group of people no matter how powerful to scuttle the peace of this town so I want to urge the people of the State to go about their business without fear of any threat.”
