Barely one week after two school pupils were kidnapped by a four man gang while being taken to school by their mother and about N1 million allegedly paid as ransom, the kidnapper Monday night abducted another woman, Mrs. Ime-Abasi Pius Emmanuel, 30 years old, demanding N50 million ransom.
Mrs. Emmanuel was allegedly kidnapped about 9pm on Monday in her residence at No. 16 Akiba Street, Eke Ita, Ikot Ansa in Calabar as she came out from the house to see the people who had called from the gate of the compound.
When the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Osita Ezechukwu was contacted for the confirmation of the kidnap, he said that the matter had not been reported to the police and that his men would carry out extensive investigations on the matter.
Husband of the kidnapped woman, Mr. Emmanuel Pius confirmed the report and said that even when the wife called him, as he was trying to find out from them what happened, they shouted on him why he was shouting and cut off the phone.
He said that he made several efforts to call the wife Monday evening but could not be successful and attributed it to network problem.
He said, “So this morning, I called her again, the line was not going I suspected that it was network, so around 10 O’clock she called me and said that they kidnapped her, so from there the people collected the phone from her and I asked what happened they said why am I shouting and they cut off the phone.
“So I have to call my brothers and told them. According to what I was told they said I should pay N50 million. This happened at Ikot Ansa around 9pm. She was kidnapped in the house at No. 16 Akiba Eke Ita, Ikot Ansa,” he said.
