by crossriverwatch admin

Vice President Namadi Sambo on Friday visited flood ravaged Buanchor community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State.

crossriverwatch gathered that Mr. Sambo arrived at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport and was received by the Governor of the State, Liyel Imoke and some members of the State Executive Council.

The Vice President later left in a chopper for Obubra in company of the Governor and other aides where they were expected to commiserate with the people of Ejah one of the most ravaged communities. But the Ejah people and some members of the state house of assembly who had prepared elaborately and waited to receive the VP were disappointed when the chopper carrying the him and Imoke only flew past them.

Some of the displaced persons camped in Ejah expressed their displeasure with what one of them described as the disdainful treatment the VP is meting out to them. He said “with all our high expectations and the preparation that we have made, even if he was not bringing us money, his presence here would have gone a long way to calm our nerves. This kind of disdainful treatment is hurting. We have been waiting all morning thinking he was coming here only to be told that he saw the damage from the chopper that was flying past. What kind of nonsense is that”

But the VP eventually touched down at Buanchor community in Boki along with the state governor, Liyel Imoke. While addressing the anxious crowd, he commiserated with the people for the looses and pain. He said N400m has been provided by the federal government to cushion the effects of the flood on the affected communities while a comprehensive relief package is being worked out by the Federal Government Special Committee on disaster management headed by Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

He assured the people of federal government’s commitment to ensure that life returns to normalcy for the people in the aftermath of the landslide disaster.
