Suspects Escape from Akampa Police Station Overnight

by crossriverwatch admin

Three suspects escaped from the Akamkpa police station overnight.

Crossriverwatch gathered from a reliable police source that the three unnamed suspects were arrested early in November for raping a lady in Akamkpa.

It was further gathered that the suspects had been duly arraigned before a magistrate who ordered that they should be detained in prison custody but the DPO was alleged to have upturned the court order and ordered that they should be kept in the station.

“They have been duly arraigned before a magistrate who ordered their remand in prison but the DPO ordered that we should keep them in the police cell and they have been here for over one month for reasons best known to the DPO.

“Now that they have escaped, I don’t know what he will tell his superiors.” The source said.

When crossriverwatch called the Station Officer, SO to get details of the escape, he declined commenting and quickly asked our reporter “are you a journalist? ah…I will not talk to you. I don’t have the power. Please contact my DPO or PRO please.” and cut the call.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Cross River State Command, DSP John Umoh, in a telephone chat told crossriverwatch that he has not gotten details of the incident.

Mr. Umoh expressed hope that he will get the report before evening and promised to give us details after he has been properly briefed.
