C’River/Ebonyi boundary: Senate Leader Seeks NBC’s Intervention

The Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba, has urged the National Boundary Commission, to find a lasting solution to the communal clashes between Amagu community in Ebonyi and Adadama community in Cross River.

In a statement in Calabar on Sunday, Ndoma-Egba urged the commission to demarcate the boundary between the two communities.

He said that the recent conflict between the two communities over farmland was a pointer to the fact that NBC
must take immediate action to forestall further hostilities in the area.

The statement signed by the senator’s Media Adviser, Chief Sam Arikpo, condemned the resort to violence by the people each time there was a disagreement between communities.

The senator said it was regrettable that the communities had failed to exhaust all avenues for dialogue before resorting to violence over disagreements.

He said people taking up arms against each other at the least misunderstanding was unacceptable.

He advised traditional rulers and political leaders of Ikwo Local Government Area in Ebonyi and their counterparts in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River to find a lasting solution to the conflict.

He advised the two communities to constitute a permanent peace committee and urged the people to resist the temptation of reprisal attacks as such actions would only prolong the crisis and fuel further insecurity.

He called on the National Emergency Management Agency to come to the aid of the displaced people of Adadama by providing them with relief materials to alleviate their suffering.

The displaced people are currently taking refuge in a primary school at Ediba pending the return of peace in their community.

NAN recalls that the boundary dispute has been on for more than 100 years and usually occurs during the farming season.
