Cross River Signs N3.6b Obudu Water Contract

Cross River State Government has signed contract for the construction of an ultra-modern water supply system worth N3.6 billion for Obudu urban and surrounding communities.

Speaking shortly after the signing ceremony for the 24 months’ time line contract in Calabar, the state Acting Governor, Mr. Efiok Cobham, reiterated the commitment of the state to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) come 2015 and said the administration will not lose sight of touching the lives of the rural populace through the provision of basic amenities.

He pointed out that poverty and diseases are the main causes of death in developing societies, and if citizens are given adequate attention like provision of access to portable water, it will go a long way in reducing water borne diseases which is the biggest cause of sickness in the rural areas.

The Acting governor averred that the rural dwellers deserve the best from government and that government will not rest on its oars in ensuring that life is enjoyable at that level, stressing that the water project will go a long way in improving the sanitary condition of the people and prevent deaths.

Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Elemi Etowa, who signed the contract on behalf of the Cross River State Government said that upon completion, the entire Obudu urban and the surrounding communities will enjoy portable water supply round the clock.
