Senate Leader, Chief Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, has given scholarships to over 540 undergraduates and post graduate students especially the indigent ones from the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State.

Senator Ndoma-Egba who disclosed this in an interview after presenting Christmas and New Year gifts to the six Local Government Areas that make up his constituency at the Obubra Council headquarters said that the scholarship scheme which he instituted immediately he went to the senate in 2004 was to encourage his constituents to go to school.

He said that out of the number, 420 beneficiaries were undergraduates while 120 were post graduate students adding that many youths of his constituency had benefited from the free computer programme which he instituted.

He explained that every local government area within his constituency has five scholarship awards every year and that members of the Scholarship Board were drawn from the six local government areas to ensure that all the council areas have representatives on the board.

The Senate Leader said that the empowerment scheme which has become his tradition every first week of the year will take place after the burial of his father and he advised that the empowerment will be given to people who have something doing so that it would help to take them to a higher level of life.

He regretted that some people had mistaken the empowerment scheme to political giving where they squandered the financial assistance given to them, thinking it was part of their national cake and advised the women in the area to form cooperative societies for them to benefit from the micro credit to grow their businesses.

Ndoma-Egba who had described his meeting with his constituents as a merry Christmas and happy New Year visit said that he had paid similar visit to the paramount rulers and elders in his constituency, adding that 660 people from the six council areas will benefit from the gesture, while another batch would be visited during the Easter period.

The Senate Leader who said that the Central Senatorial District of the state was the most united senatorial zone said that he would continue to do everything within his powers to ensure that the constituency continued to benefit from infrastructural facilities.

He called on each of the local government areas to provide five locations where transformers that he has secured will be kept.
