Senate Leader and Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District has expressed sadness over the death of the Deputy Political Editor of the Guardian Newspaper, Mr. John Abba Ogbodo.

Mr. Ogbodo, the Assistant Political Editor of the Guardian was killed in an auto crash around Anyigba, Kogi State on February 2013.

The deceased, who was also the Senate Correspondent of the paper, was reportedly traveling from Abuja to Awka, the Anambra State capital alongside some other journalists to cover the convocation of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University where Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu was scheduled to deliver a convocation lecture.

Eye witnesses say the crash occurred when the Toyota minivan they were travelling in lost a tire and somersaulted into the woods.

He is believed to have died at the scene of the crash while others sustained various degrees of wounds.

In a statement today on his facebook wall, Senator Ndoma Egba who also just buried his late father said: “I am saddened by the news of the death of the Guardian’s newspaper Abuja Bureau Chief and the Senate Correspondent of the paper, Mr. John Abba Ogboro in a ghastly motor accident. Mr. Ogboro was one of the finest journalists to have covered the Senate. His penchant for qualitative reportage and the ability to draw a line between interpersonal friendship and the demand of his profession to be fair and fearless in the discharge of his duties will remain the enduring legacy he will be remembered with. I commiserate with his family, the press corps of the National Assembly and the Nigerian Union of Journalists. I pray that God will grant his soul access to His Kingdom”.
