The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe has said that the new Action Plan for the development of the Niger Delta as part of the President Jonathan’s transformation agenda will tackle the developmental challenges of the region.
Speaking at the stakeholders conference and inaugural meeting of the National Council on the Niger Delta in Uyo the Akwa Ibom State Capital Monday, the Minister said there is need for concerted effort to develop the region with an acceptable and all inclusive the action plan.
The Minister said the new Niger Delta Action Plan which was drawn largely from the vision 20-20-20, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)and other past technical committees of the region with new realistic developmental inputs, will provide employment and human capacity development opportunities and consequently bring about a peaceful, secure and prosperous oil rich region.
“Our ministry’s desire for this new development plan was to create a synergy with all the government agencies, development partners and other stakeholders in the Niger Delta region to give proper account of our developmental programs and projects devoid of duplication of projects in a transparent and just manner for history to record us”
“We are not excluding anyone that will give us a proactive idea to move this region forward, that is why this forum is essential” Orubebe said.
He urged all the stakeholders in the region to support the ministry’s plan to rebuild a realistic hope in the Niger Delta states of Nigeria.
Present at the stakeholders conference were the representatives of the governors, federal and states lawmakers, traditional rulers, youths and civil society organizations as well as stakeholders from the nine Niger Delta States.
