Health Resource Center Commissioned in Calabar

The moribund resource center in the General Hospital, Calabar has been re-equipped with modern research facilities.

The center which was re-equipped to promote evidence-based health care services was commissioned by the State commissioner for Health, Professor Angela Oyo-Ita.

Speaking while commissioning the center, the Commissioner said the Resource Center is been refurbished with state of the art equipment that will be accessible to medical professional personnel as well as other researchers to carry out their researches.

Professor Oyo-Ita said the center will go a long way to promote evidence based healthcare in the state where facts about tested proofs in the medical profession can be documented.

She said the hospital’s collaboration with the Communication Technology Development Department (CTDD) is yielding results while urging the public to take advantage of the facilities at the center.

The Coordinator, Department of Clinical Governance and E-Health, in the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Comfort Ekanem, disclosed that the Resource Center was established since 2006 but has not been functional due to lack of facilities.

She said the Commissioner’s efforts in partnering with the CTDD department in the State to put in place new Computers, Printers, Photocopiers, Scanners as well as Internet services to ensure that the Resource Center is reactivated is well appreciated .

On his part, the Chief Medical Director of General Hospital Calabar, Dr. P. Kumar, expressed joy at the reactivation of the Center, which he said will help the hospital in its administration among other things.

He promised to set up the hospital’s website such that the public could be informed about the hospital as well as services it renders online, in line with current realities.

Dr. Kumar also pledged to make optimum use of the Resource Center to promote evidence-based care.
