The incident, according to Patrick Eyo Ita, father of the victim, took place on the 17th of June at No 9 Effanga Offiong Street, off Ediber at Calabar South area of the state capital.

“It was about 9:30 pm and the house was very hot and so I decided to lay my daughter on the veranda of my apartment so I take a stroll in the neighborhood but when I came back at about 10pm, I did not see my daughter where I laid her but saw the wrapper on which she laid and I was worried and decided to search for her”. Narrating further, he said as he was desperately looking for the girl, he heard some screams and the voice sounded as his daughter’s and “I decided to peep into the room where the scream was coming from and I saw Bassey Ekpo naked on top of my daughter and I raised alarm and neighbors gathered”.

Mr. Eyo Ita said as the neighbors made to apprehend the 35 year old Bassey Ekpo, he bolted through the back door and and escaped.

“When I took my daughter, blood was coming out of her private part and she could hardly walk so I reported to the police who took her to the Nigeria Police Medical Center at Akim”.

The suspect who was playing cat and dogs with the police was finally arrested on Monday by men of the Police Area Command Akim who have been on his trail since the 17th of June.
