Some political office holders who are still enjoying salaries from their former Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Cross River State will soon be identified and sanctioned, crossriverwatch can authoritatively report.
Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Sir Brian Ekpong stated this in Calabar when the Commission interfaced with the Chairman and board members of the State Secondary Education Board.
The chairman said the ongoing findings by the commission revealed that some political office holders who ought to have applied for and obtained approval for Leave of Absence before leaving their civil service duties for political offices did not do so.
He said the discovery was as a result of several petitions received by the commission particularly teachers who either won elections or appointed to serve in various capacities in government.
“This act amounts to double earning of salaries which the civil and public service rules specify summary dismissal as punishment for offenders”.
“How can certain public servants who have not been working earn salary for onward of 13 years and yet not be sanctioned?”
“What the Commission want is to promote quality service delivery in strict compliance with the rules of the service” the commission chairman said.
