Cross River Gives N89m Compensation to Airport Bye-Pass Land Owners

Eighty-Nine Million Naira cheques have been issued to beneficiaries of revocation of property along the Margaret Ekpo International Airport By-pass road, Calabar.

Speaking while handing the cheques to the beneficiaries, Cross River State Commissioner for Works, Barrister Legor Idagbo reiterated the imperative of the construction of the Margaret Ekpo International Airport Bypass, saying that the present and future advantages of the road cannot be over emphasized.

He said the road which is near completion will not only reduce the volume of traffic but will divert all heavy duty trucks from the Highway, this he said will go a long way to ease vehicular movement and enhance other socio-economic activities in the State.

The Commissioner said that as an agent of this administration, he is working with other stakeholders, to secure Right-of-Way for the contractors to work and maximize the weather condition as the heavy rains will soon set in and therefore solicited the co-operation of all concerned.

On his part, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Surveyor Raphael Uche stressed the need for peace and harmony in other to achieve progress and development.

Responding on behalf of beneficiaries, Barrister Paul Ebiala, of Paul Ebiala and Associates who represented Messrs Mount Zion Church, thanked the government for fulfilling its promise.

He said one of the biggest problems of revocation is compensation which usually takes a long time to redeem.

Barrister Ebiala assured that with the prompt payment of compensation, peace and harmony will be guaranteed on site with the overall aim of attaining completion of the road within the stipulated period.
