As Muslims world over begin the annual Ramadan fasting, Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, has urged them to demonstrate Prophet Muhammed’s teaching of sacrifice to one another.

Imoke, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Religious Matters, Pastor Eyo Ekpo-Ene, contended that, “at times like this, we are reminded of the lesson of all great faiths, including Islam that we do unto others, as we would have them do unto us”.

He said that, “Ramadan is also a time of deep reflection and sacrifice. As in other faiths, fasting is used to increase spirituality, discipline, and consciousness of God’s mercy”.

“It is also a reminder of the importance of reaching out to those less privileged, the heartbreaking accounts of the loss of lives in some parts on Nigeria in the name of religion call for an even deeper reflection and a sense of responsibility” he further said.

The Governor reminded them that Ramadan is a festive season that is anticipated for months by Muslims as families and communities share the happiness of gathering together for iftar and prayers, adding that in the State, Muslims share Ramadan traditions with their neighbors.

He used the occasion to wish Muslims in Cross River State and Nigeria at large a blessed month.
