Obong’s Palace Not Aware of Any Stay Of Execution – Spokesperson

The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V has said that contrary to what has been widely reported in the media, he and the palace is not aware of any stay of execution order for the recent Appeal Court judgement which ordered a new selection process to fill the stool of the Obong of Calabar, pending the determination of Chief Anthony Ani’s appeal at the Supreme Court.

Speaking to CrossRiverWatch through his spokesperson Ekpeyong Essien, the Obong said having complied with the Appeal Court judgement as ordered, he and the palace is not aware of any stay of execution from the Supreme Court.

“We have not been serve any process, so I cannot say whether he has gone or he has not; as far as my boss and the palace is concerned, nothing has been serve on us and we don’t know if he has gone or not.”

After reminding him that it was reported in the media Esien said, “Look! We are not aware, media is not the palace or Obong, Efik throne is not for sale you cannot buy it with money. The recent temporary setback we had at the palace over the seat of the Obong of Calabar was as a result of the Appeal Court judgement and that was just a diversion of good leadership in the Efik Nation.

“The re-selection and proclamation of Etubom Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu as the Obong has shown the truth of the qualification and who can become the Efik natural ruler. Truth remains the truth and you cannot suppress it, it is hereditary which you must merit before you get it. We should give the Obong support and encouragement so that he can lead us well.
