South South PDP Meet in Calabar, Pledge Support For President Jonathan

An expanded Zonal Executive Committee meeting of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, rose on Friday in Calabar with a pledge to support President Goodluck Jonathan in his 2015 re-election quest.

The meeting which had in attendance top functionaries of the party at both elective and appointive positions held at the Cross River State Governors Lodge and amongst other resolutions called on all the sons and daughters of the South South region to “wholly support His Excellency, Dr Goodluck Jonathan because he truly represents the symbol of unity and strength of the south south region”.

The resolutions which were contained in a communique signed by Dr. Steve Oru, the National Vice Chairman South South, and Chief Joe Edionwele, the Zonal Secretary stated further that the country has witnessed “so much development with the successful implementation of the Transformation Agenda which has impacted much in the areas of human rights, rule of law, good governance, the power sector, infrastructure development and general improvement of the economy in all ramifications”.

The meeting felt concerned about the state of insecurity in the northern part of the country and accordingly in their resolution appealed for peace in that part of the country by calling “On all our brothers in the north to sheath their sword and embrace peace for the unity and progress of the country”.

The PDP top functionaries in the south south also took time to commend President Goodluck Jonathan for the declaration of the state of emergency in some states in the north which has yielded the fruits of restoring peace in the affected states.

In attendance were Mr. Mike Oghiadome, Chief of staff to the President, Chief Tony Anenih, Chairman Board of Trustees of the party, Governors Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, Chief Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, National Executive Committee members, National Working Committee members, State Majority Leaders, Senators, Members of House of Representatives, House of Assembly members, PDP chairmen of the six states of the south south, Board of Trustee members of the party from the zone and Zonal Executive Committee members.
