Recently, students of Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa had a burial procession for exam malpractice within the college community. The students led by the SUG president, Comrade Etta, Pascal Christopher, the Dean of students’ Affair, Mr. Okoi, Utum Ina (SNR) and Mr. Castro Ezama witnessed massive turnout by students.
The SUG president in his address described examination malpractice as a poison that kills silently and has great adverse effect than good. He maintained that the rationale for the exercise is to show the unison commitment by his administration and the college management to create awareness and show their readiness to eradicate the menace from the college; adding that it would be dismal to see that after this enlightenment campaign and burial, students will still be caught in large number practicing the illegal act.
Earlier, the Dean of Students’ Affair lauded the participants for turning out en mass.
“I’m glad to see that you’re here in large number to bury the menace called examination mal practice, it gives me great joy to note that this crowd here present is ready to join hands with us in combating this common enemy of ours.
“I encourage all of you to study hard because nothing good comes easy in life and only in hard work can a man be genuinely happy with the result of his actions, last year over 150 students were suspended and 20 rusticated from the college because of exam mal practice.
“It is not my wish to see any student expelled or suspended because I have children and I know what trouble we parents pass through to educate you our children, spend your time studying because that is your primary assignment here and other things are secondary. But most of all remember with God all things are possible, abide by the wise counsel in Ecclesiastes 3:1-22” he said.
Mr. Castro Ezama who is a lecturer in Educational Technology department, an old student of the college and the Alumni Chairman beckoned on the students to adapt the slogan of “no food for lazy man” in order to succeed.
He said: “I am a living testimony of how rewarding hard work is, perhaps if I was one found wanting in such lackadaisical act do you think today I will be here as your lecturer? No, I want you all to set a standard for yourself which will not in turn hunt you”.
