The group has also set up mobilization group to mobilize supports in all parts of the south-south state.
Youths, professional bodies, women and the entire political class in Cross River State, have been challenged to critically examine contenders for the 2015 governorship of the state, with a view to rooting for someone credible enough to drive the on-going transformation agenda of Liyel Imoke’s administration.
An Abuja based business man, Victor Akwaji, threw the challenge at an enlarged consultative meeting he convened at Freeman’s Hotel, Calabar, Monday, to sensitize opinion leaders on the need to bring Pressure to bear on the Group General Manager (CRUDE) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Godwin Jedy-Agba, to run for the governorship election.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr Akwaji, said the time had come for Cross Riverians to take the destiny of the state in their hands by searching for someone who, through his wealth of experience and contacts, could provide the needed leadership to facilitate the transformation of state.
He noted that as a public servant, Mr. Jeddy-Agba, had distinguished himself as a patriotic Cross Riverian, who could be trusted with the highest responsibility in the state.
Mr. Akwaji commended Mr. Imoke for giving direction to his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the political elite as far as the 2015 governorship is concerned, adding that the Northern Senatorial District would not let the state down.
He urged members to mobilize personal resource to drive the campaign which he described as “a collective project”, adding that it was imperative for the people to make sacrifices for the good of the state.
He hinted that consultations are on-going to persuade the NNPC top brass to “throw his hat in the ring,” come 2015.
The Chairman of the Cross River State community, University of Calabar, UNICAL, Patrick Egaga, said the time was rife for the Cross River political elite to search for a credible leader for the state, in order not to compromise the standards set by the Imoke Administration.
Also speaking, Jacob Dakim, pledged to mobilize his constituents to support Mr. Agba should he decide to enter the governorship race.
He however urged the convener to prevail on Mr. Agba, to make himself available to Cross Riverians, especially those rooting for him to contest the election.
At the end of the meeting, members resolved to form a group to carry the mobilization to all nooks and crannies of the state.
