PDP Wins All 18 LGA’s in Cross River Election

The ruling People’s Democratic Party PDP has again won all the 18 Chairmanship and 196 Councilorship seats in Saturday’s one party contest local council elections which held across the State.

Announcing the results yesterday in Calabar, Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Sir Patrick Otu said results for twelve local governments were ready while the other six councils were still being collated.

The ruling party which was the only party that fielded candidates for the Chairmanship post won unopposed in all the local councils announced.

In Abi, the Governors local government, the PDP candidate won with 41,773 votes while in Akamkpa, Joseph Asuquo won with 48,185 votes.

In Akpabuyo, Patrick Ene-Okon won with 30,013, in Bakassi, Edisua Usong was also declared winner as well as the PDP flag bearer in Bekwara, Mr. Ushie Onyi.

In Biase, the PDP also won with 49,509 votes and in Calabar South Local Government the party won 43,082 to win the chairmanship.

The ruling party flag bearers in Etung, Ikom, Obubra, Odukpani, Ogoja were also declared winners in their respective councils.

All the councilorship seats in the various council areas were also won by the PDP.

APGA, PPA and NCP, all defunct parties also had councilorship candidates in six political wards across the state.

CrossRiverWatch gathered from a source in CROSIEC that the remaining results are not different from the ones that have being announced.

“We only want to get the figures right. It was a PDP contest, so you don’t expect anything other than a PDP victory in the remaining ones. It was more of an affirmation for the ruling party.” The source said.

It will be recalled that the state electoral umpire, CROSIEC disqualified the main opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC from contesting the election on grounds of not meeting the provisions of the State Electoral Act.

APC dragged CROSIEC to Court and the matter is still subjudice.
