A policeman and two youths have been reportedly killed in Ogoja local government area in the northern part of Cross River State as Ishibori youths confront police over failed attempt to arrest the chief of the area.

According to a source, Mr. Chris Igbaji, who lives in Ishibori, a team of policemen from Calabar went to arrest a youth whose name was given as Tom at the Ndok junction some two kilometers from the Ogoja town but “the police did not see the young man and they decided to take the chief of the area into custody so that the Ndok community would produce the boy but the youths mobilized to stop the arrest of their chief and this led to confrontation and the police shot one of the youths to death.”

Chris said the youths became angry over the killing of one of them and decided to attack the police team killing one of them.

“After the killing yesterday of the youth and the policeman yesterday, the youths this morning barricaded roads in Igoli and Ishibori to protest the killing and the police went out to remove the barricades and to disperse the youths and again shot a teenage girl to death again”.

The killing of the girl reportedly escalated the situation as the youths went out to burn the police station at Ogoja and houses where police personnel are residing.

“As I speak to you now, several houses where police people are living have been razed by the youths and we are now living in fear of what would happen next”

Efforts to speak with the Cross River State Police Command spokesman, Hogan Bassey did not yield fruit as his GSM line remained switched off after repeated calls.
