Cross River State Carnival Ambassador, Mr. Sunny Neji, was recently conferred a chieftaincy title as Ntol Ashe 1 of Ekajuk, meaning King of Music in Ekajuk and Ogoja land by the Ekajuk Traditional Council.

The Afro-high life musician, who is from Ogoja (Ishibori), was in his home town to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bakor new yam festival.

Conferring the title, the Paramount ruler of Ogoja, HRH, Ntol-Atol Adima, said, “the Council of Chiefs have long ago observed that Nneji is the leading musician in the region, who has brought pride to the people of Cross River and deserved to be honored.”

Also speaking, Chief Joseph Mowang, said “we have many musicians in this area but Sunny Nneji happens to be one who has gone far and wide in the industry, so we the Ekajuk people have decided to confer a chieftaincy title on him as our son.”

He added, “He is the only one we understand his songs in our local dialects and that alone has made us proud” he praised.

Reacting on the title, the “Tolo-Tolo” crooner said he feels highly honored to be a chief of his land.

“This came as a huge surprise. I was not expecting this, I only came here to celebrate the new yam festival with my people and as an invitation from my spiritual father, Rev. Father Eworo in his home town (Igbong) and while here enjoying myself, the chiefs gave me this shocking surprise of honoring me with Ntol Ashe 1 of Ekajuk”. He said.

The Afro star promised to lead an exemplary life and maintain high standards not to let down the Bakor people and Cross Riverians at large.
