Contrary to initial threats to disrupt work should the November 1 dateline for handing over to the new management go on without payment of their entitlements, the management and other workers of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in Calabar District on Friday went about their normal duties.
Correspondents, who visited the PHCN office, reports that all the offices were opened, while workers attended to customers.
Many customers also queued at the counters to pay their electricity bills, while some came to make complaints.
Workers in the technical section were also found busy moving their ladders to rectify faults on electric poles and homes.
The District Public Relations Officer, Mr. Fredrick Obi, told NAN that everything was going on fine, adding that the district office could only take directives from the head office.
He said: “as you can see everything is normal. We can only follow directives from Abuja.’’
A member of staff, Mr Orok Eyo, said they were monitoring developments in Abuja with keen interest.
“We are waiting for whatever happens,’’ he said.
NAN reports that November 1, has been slated as handing over date to the new investors that are to take over from the PHCN.
Some workers of PHCN had threatened to disrupt the smooth handing over if their severance entitlements are not paid.
