Contrary to the usual antics of godfatherism, affluence and connection often deployed in the election of office holders, who becomes the next governor of Cross River state will be greatly decided by God.
This revelation was handed out by a maverick cleric and Chairman of the Pentecostal Federation of Nigeria [PFN] in Cross River state, Bishop Dr Emma Isong during a prayer rally organized in Ogoja at the instance of the Cross River Northern Senatorial District’s quest to produce the governor of the state in 2015.
The rally which held at the St Benedicts Primary School, Ota Akara, Ogoja had the theme: ”Thou Lord knowest the heart of all men, shew whether of these…thou hast chosen”Acts1:24, attracted a mammoth crowd including politicians, religious leaders, traditional rulers, youth and women from the five local government areas that make up the senatorial district.
Delivering a homily, Bishop Isong said the next governor of the state will not be determined by godfatherism, wealth or affluence and place of abode but greatly by the hand of God.
Quoting 1st Samuel 16:11, the clergyman said God will choose a man with the moral fiber; who has a right-standing with God, and who will sustain the existing peaceful climate in the state.”
Just as David was chosen as a result of his good heart, God will decide who the next governor will be by that man’s good heart” adding that politicians must denounce all forms of immorality, cultism, occultism and the likes as these tendencies are no longer in vogue.
Apparently alluding to the quest for a governor by the Northern Senatorial District, Bishop Isong who is also the founder of the Christian Central Chapel International [CCCI] in Calabar said the north deserves to be given the 2015 slot for their long patience for the position while the south
and central occupied the office.
”If you see anybody from the South or Central coming to contest, he is coming to support you; he is not coming to contest in actual fact.” He emphasized adding that the theme for the prayer rally as drawn from Acts 1;24 was the prayer of the people of the north in the quest for a governor from the senatorial district.
He said the next governor must work assiduously to reduce poverty, hunger and strife as well as fix infrastructure while urging the people of the senatorial district to remain united and prayerful in their agitation for a governorship position.
Other speakers at the event included officials of the Christian Association of Nigeria,[CAN]Rev.[Dr]Akwazi Akwazi from South Africa, Rev.[Dr]Enya Egbe, Rev.[Dr]C.A.Ogar, Rev.[Dr]Elias Agbor all drummed support for the course of the north and offered prayers for the peaceful coexistence of
Nigerians.
