The Cross River State House of Assembly has passed the 2014 appropriation bill into law, approving the sum of N 180.14bn for the fiscal year.
Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and Finance, Mr. Jacob Otu-Enyia, on Wednesday said the approved figure showed a variance of N3.83bn
He said a total of N1.55bn was being recommended as added sums for some Ministries, Departments and Agencies to take care of critical expenditure item and that the sum of N2.52bn was admitted as capital receipts, explaining that these receipts and additional expenditure increased the budget size.
The assembly resolved that to give the state lawmakers a sense of belonging, projects embarked upon by the Ministries of Education and Health should be designated as House members’ constituency projects.
It also asked the state government to intervene by providing needed infrastructure at the General Hospital, Akamkpa.
Meanwhile, Governor Liyel Imoke has approved the appointment of 14 permanent secretaries in the State Civil Service.
In a statement by the Secretary to the Cross River State Government, Mr. Mike U. Aniah, the names of the new appointees are listed as Freedom Edward Ejom, Perpetua Samuel Aji, Clement Eta Ntui, Susan Nyong Bassey, Inaku Emeka and Dr. John Osang Odock.
Others are Edem Edem Ita, Geraldline Akpet-Ekanem, Igbe Simeon Aruku, Ikong Akwaji Ogbang, Helen Brown Ubom, Asanye Ita Ikpeme, Maurice Dominic Effiwat and Charles O. Eyong.
According to the statement, the appointees are to be sworn-in on January 14.
