The Nigerian Union of Journalists, Cross River State Chapter has endorsed the Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba for re-election into the Red Chamber of the National Assembly for a record fourth term.
The endorsement came few weeks after the Nigerian Bar Association NBA, Calabar, gave Egba a clean bill to continue his work as Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District beyond June 2015.
Ndoma Egba, is a respected senator and Leader of the Senate. He is also one of the most high ranking senators from Southern Nigeria and leader of the South South Legislature in the National Assembly and has been in the upper chamber of the National Assembly since 2003.
The NUJ endorsement came shortly after the annual press briefing which has become like ‘a ritual’ by the Senate Leader since 1983 as a consistent patron of the Union in Cross River.
Before the unanimous endorsement by the union, Chairman of NUJ, Cross River, Comrade Ndoma Akpet reeled out the achievements of the Senator which include the World bank/Africa Development Bank ADB Trans Africa National Highway Corridor facilitated by the Senator which traverse from Mbok Junction In Yala, Ogoja, Boki to Mfum border in Ikom LGA and his consistency in giving scholarship not only to the people of Southern Senatorial District but all deserving Cross Riverians in the last three decades.
Of most importance to the Union according to the state NUJ Chairman was the quick financial support given by the Senate Leader to one of its senior member, Mr Jude Okwe of Thisday Newspapers who had an enlarged heart that threatened his living in Mid 2013.
He said Ndoma Egba’s gesture to Mr. Okwe was the first financial support received by the Union and it helped in facilitating the foreign trip to correct the heart defect.
According to the Union Chairman, the just concluded Media Week organised by the Union was given the first endorsement and financial support by its patron, the Senate Leader.
Responding, the Senate Leader asked the congregation that “Is it true that you have asked me to seek re-election as your Patron to the Senate? You did not even ask me , you are directing me to seek re-election “and the congregation of the Union gave a resounding response of “YES WE DO,WHY NOT, IF NOT YOU WHO AGAIN?”.
The Senate Leader thanked the Union for his endorsement and promised to continue to do his best for the Union, his Constituents, Cross River State and Nigeria.
While responding to the question of the alleged interest of the Wife of the Governor, Mrs Obioma Imoke to contest the Central Senatorial District with him, Ndoma Egba said he is not aware of that, stressing that he only knows himself and will not rely on rumors.
“I only know myself and don’t know anybody or hear from any one so let us wait and see” he said.
