The Cross River State Government has approved the takeover of eleven new secondary schools hitherto run by communities across the State.
The Chairman, Secondary Education Board, Dr. Sylvia Atsu stated this during an interactive session with the staff of the affected schools in her office.
She said the takeover of the schools was necessitated by the approval of the State governor, Senator Liyel Imoke.
The Chairman informed the staff of the State Government’s desire to give education a prime position and the need to step in and acquire some of the schools so that government can assist communities in improving the standards.
Dr Sylvia lauded the Governor for his gracious approval of the new schools, since it would create additional jobs for young graduates, especially at the rural areas.
She assured the staff of the security of their jobs despite government take over and called on them to display a high level of discipline and commitment to their duties during their teaching and other duties.
The affected school include: Community Secondary School-Abanyong; Community Secondary School – Betem, Community Secondary School – Ipumkpa, Community Secondary School – Obio Usiere, Community Secondary School – Ofumborigha, Community Secondary School – Ikpalegwa, Community Secondary School -Itaka and Community Secondary School, Ntinton.
Others are: Ras Comprehensive Secondary School – Ekpeti, VSCS – Okosora and NCHS – Nyemetop.
