The Executive Chairman of Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River, Hon. Rita Agbo Ayim has commended the State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke for issuing certificates to Head Chiefs across the 10 Wards of the Local Government.
The Chairman made this known while presenting the chiefs with the certificates on behalf of the governor. She thanked the governor for the timely recognition granted to the chiefs and stressed that the role of traditional rulers as custodians of culture and tradition especially in a democratic society cannot be over emphasized.
The Chairman who was represented by Mr. John Aninege, the Council Secretary urged the Chiefs to see themselves as good ambassadors of their respective domains, peacemakers, and advised them to maintain law and order in their various areas.
According to the chairman, the Ogoja people are happy the way Clan Heads and Chiefs under the leadership of His Royal Highness the Paramount Ruler of Ogoja, Ntol Gregory Adima have conducted themselves in fulfilling the mandate given to them by their people. This, Mrs Ayim stated is evident in the relative peace and security experienced in their respective areas that has led to more chiefs being handed with certificates of recognition.
Also speaking the Paramount Ruler of Ogoja, His Royal Highness, Gregory Adima who was the Chief Host, said he was indeed elated that some of his Chiefs were given certificates of recognition. He added that not all the chiefs due for certificate were given, but that a date shall be fixed for the rest to receive theirs since it is a continuous process. For the beneficiaries, it was a special day because some of them have been made chiefs for more than 10 years without certificates.
The paramount ruler used the opportunity to thank the state government for his benevolence. He called for patience from those yet to be given their certificates, and asked the beneficiaries to maintain maturity and integrity that earned them their positions, reminding them of the sacredness of their positions in both their home towns and local government.
He said that their role as the custodians of the peoples’ culture and tradition should be top most on their minds and tasked them to do everything within their power to protect it.
