The emergence of a governor in Cross River State in 2015 will be based on a clean credible process because the position of a governor is too important for one person to decide.

Senator Liyel Imoke, the Cross River State Governor who stated this on Thursday in Ogoja during the inauguration of the PDP Caucus for the Northern Senatorial District of the state said though he will play a role in the emergence of a governor from the north, he will not anoint anybody as a successor.

“I don’t know who will be governor come 2015, but I know who will not be and the person who will be governor will not be an outsider but a member of the PDP family and could be in this room now”.

He said people have been arrogating to him the position of God by pressing on him to anoint someone who will be his successor so that he will not be rubbished when he vacates office.

“Those who say that are not students of history to know that the likely person who will rubbish you is the person you put in office to protect you because he will want to assert himself rather than come every morning to your door step to bow before you”.

Senator Imoke however stated that for a governor to emerge, his back ground, capacity, and integrity must be above board and he will not support someone from outside the family to become the next governor because such a person will not be conversant with the complexities of the issues confronting the state.

Governor Imoke stated that the inauguration of the Senatorial caucuses is to satisfy the a constitutional requirement of the PDP and will serve the purpose of screening the governorship aspirants and feed the party which will also feed him with the developments in the field.

He said the caucuses, particularly that of the Northern Senatorial District should form a synergy and frequently communicate with those of the South and Central to ensure regular communication and dialogue towards selecting a governor peacefully.

He called on the people of the Northern Senatorial District to be united as glue and reach a consensus on who will become governor because they have waited the most for the position amongst all the Senatorial Districts of the state. “Maybe the Central Senatorial District may not be interested in the position but the South is watching, so you have to make sure you come together.”

Ntufam John Okon, the State PDP Chairman said the party which was sinking has once again risen to become a formidable force which other parties cannot stand against.

He said the Party has taken the decision to zone the position of governor to the north for the sake of equity, justice and unity of the state.

The Northern Senatorial District Caucus which was inaugurated has Chief Linus Okom as chairman.
