Senator Ben Ayade, the Senator representing the Northern Senatorial District of Cross River State has set up a mobile food bank to provide free food for the needy and vulnerable in the his senatorial district.
An aide to the Senator, Dr Stephen Odey said Ayade who had a humble beginning does recall how difficult life was then and reckons that it is even more difficult now for the average family to put food on the table and so has “Decided that he has do his best to ensure that no one sleeps on an empty stomach within the extent that God has enabled his reach”.
Conducting our reporter round, Dr Odey explained that the free mobile food bank is specifically targeted at the aged, the retired and weak, the physically challenged, leprosy centre inmates , widows without those to cater for them, the abandoned in and out of hospitals. Vehicles have been provided that will distribute the food at targeted locations around the five LGAs in the northern senatorial district. “This is borne out of his love for the people and selfless service that he has offered himself for without expecting anything in return”.
On how the program will be sustained, odey stated that Ayade Motors which is a subsidized transport initiative of the Senator will be a major source of income that would ensure the continuity of the program, “while Senator will inject 10 percent of his income to buy food from all our farmers so that our money can stay within to create a buoyant local economy”.
On the much publicised partnership between the Senator and the Central Bank to provide capacity training and matching funds for the young people in his Senatorial District, Odey said the program will start on the 10th of March, 2014.
