A new chapter was opened in the leadership history of the Rotaract club of Calabar, University of Calabar (ROTA-UNICAL) as the club installed her first female president recently.

The humanitarian club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Calabar installed a female as president after 28 years of existence as a chattered club.

The installation ceremony was held at the CES auditorium graduate school UNICAL penultimate week under the chairmanship of the sponsored club president ROTN. Akpanke Ogar.

The 28th and 1st female president of the club Rotr. Kesther Ishekwene in her inaugural speech promised not to downplay the confidence reposed on her to deliver on her mandate.

Kesther, who is also a 300-level student of the faculty of law solicited for support from members, public spirited individuals and multinationals in order to achieve the club’s community service projects for the year.

The club’s community service projects according to her includes: end polio campaign, donation of sign-post to graduate school UNICAL, environmental sanitation exercise at UNICAL medical center, payment of school fees to some indigents pupils, distribution of sanitary/stationary materials to primary schools among others.

Highpoints of the installation ceremony was the induction of new members, launching of the club’s community service projects, cutting of the club’s anniversary cake, as well as awards to personalities who distinguished themselves through community, educational and professional service – Dr. Mike Okom and Hon. Odibe Emmanuel.

Dignitaries at the epoch-making event were presidents of Rotaract clubs in Calabar, Executives of the Students’ union government, among others.

Speaking with CrossRiverWatch, Rosamond Ekeng, 400 level Medicine and surgery said: “Kesther is the hard-working type, I’m cocksure she wouldn’t let the female folk down even as she has broken the records as the first female president of the club”

Ime-obong Archibong said:”Kesther is the first female president of the club after 28 years of the club existence hence much is desired from her. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that with the needed cooperation and goodwill from members, she will surely perform impressively while her regime lasts”
