Cross section of delegates at the national conference

Senator Florence Ita Giwa, one of the delegates representing Cross River state at the national conference which was inaugurated by President Jonathan on Monday has said that some of them who have been nominated as delegates to the conference were the major cause of the intractable crises the country is facing today.

A CrossRiverWatch reporter who monitored proceedings on the floor of the first plenary session of the conference on Tuesday reports that it was a noisy and dramatic session with several of the delegates throwing banters while some denounced the conference as a ploy to curry political favor for the President’s second term.

The former lawmaker was said to have opened her remarks by calling for a flower vest which was placed in front of the Chairman of the Conference, Justice Kutigi to be removed to enable the Chairman get direct eye contact with delegates on the floor.

Our reporter quoted Senator Ita Giwa as saying “many of the problems Nigeria is facing were caused by some of those appointed delegates to this Conference. Some of the problems facing this country today were caused by some of us who are in this Conference.”

The former presidential adviser solicited the cooperation of the leadership of the conference not to gag anyone but allow every delegation enough time to make submissions arguing that every delegation must have come with strong positions on critical national issues.

Criticisms have continued to trail the Cross River State delegation to the conference with many saying the delegates are ‘spent woods’ who may not represent the best interest of the state.
