The private security operatives working with the Ministry of Niger Delta at the Federal Government Housing Estate built for the displaced people of Bakassi, at Ekpri Ikang, have called on the Ministry to pay their three months outstanding salaries.
Speaking with newsmen on their plight, the estate head of the security, Mr. Tidi Brown said the condition under which the security personnel at the estate are leaving is pathetic due to their unpaid salary.
Brown stressed that despite the risk they face protecting the estate from vandalization and often times confronting hoodlums in area, the Ministry has not been treating them well at several fronts including the failure to pay them their meager salary for upward of three months.
Another security man, Mr. Edet Etim said “the Ministry of Niger Delta has turned us to employees without salary for months “.
Edet said the situation has affected their families and other dependants as they can no longer pay school fees of their children.
Reacting to the allegation while on phone with CrossRiverWatch, a Director in the Ministry who preferred anonymity said the Ministry has paid the security company that engaged them, pointing out that Niger Delta Ministry did not employ the security guards directly.
