Legislators and other politicians who give out commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada to the electorates as empowerment doesn’t want the progress of such citizens and may want them to be killed.
Governor Liyel Imoke dropped the hint on Monday during his remark at the commissioning of the agricultural business farm and park, a constituency empowerment project of a member of House of Representatives, Hon Nkoyo Toyo at Atan Okonyong,Odukpani Local Government Area.
Imoke said ‘Okada empowerment’ does nothing to improve the economy rather, it causes hazard and endangers the life of the beneficiary and the community.
He said he has always kicked against some of the politicians who give out Okada as empowerment scheme even as he said some of his political allies kicked against his position.
“If there is anybody who doesn’t support Okada for empowerment it’s me, I don’t like it, I pronounced it, I broadcast it, I shout it!
“I have never seen anybody who was given an Okada and came back to say it has reproduced another Okada or a taxi, rather it caused them agony few months after it was given.” he said.
While commending Hon Nkoyo Toyo whom he described as a good representative, Imoke said the agricultural initiative of the legislator will outlived her tenure as a federal lawmaker and produce sustainable results.
