The last may not have been heard of the recent deaths caused by a Globacom telecommunication Mast in Odukpani local government Area of Cross River State as the state government has promised to investigate the cause and bring those culpable to book to avoid future occurrence.
The position of the State government was made known when a high power delegation of the state led by the Commissioner for Information, Chief Akin Ricketts visited the area to commiserate with the families of the deceased and injured victims of the disaster.
CrossRiverWatch had recently reported the wind storm that led to the collapse of the Telecommunication mast which claimed lives of two persons in Odukpani Local Government Area.
Speaking during the assessment visit to the accident scene, Chief Ricketts said government will look into the unfortunate incident, investigate it and bring those culpable to book.
He informed the families of the victims that the governor sent him to commiserate with the victims and their families while efforts will be put in place to access the level of damage caused by the disaster.
The commissioner assured the victims that government would send the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), for immediate intervention and provide succor to the affected families.
While sympathizing with all those whose houses were destroyed and who lost their dear ones, Chief Ricketts added that, no amount of compensation would be enough, only God, in His infinite mercies would see them through this trying moments and prayed that nothing of this magnitude would happen to them again.
Narrating the untimely death of Mr. Ernest Fine -Country, the daughter of the deceased, Mrs. Queen Adindu Fine-Country told the Commissioner that, the mast fell just as the rain started and killed her father instantly.
Also, Mr. John Asuquo Etok, told the Commissioner how his ten year old daughter, Lawrencia John Etok who until her death was a primary six pupil of St. Theresa Primary School, New Netim met her untimely death.
It would be recalled that tragedy struck in Odukpani local government area penultimate week when a telecommunications mast said to belong to Globacom fell and killed two people.
Those killed were a ten year old girl, Lawrencia John Etok and a middle aged man, Adindu Fine-country.
