Senate Leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, representing the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State today said extending development to troubled Ediba and Usumutong communities in Abi Local Government in Cross River State is part of the strategy that will guarantee the return of peace to the warring communities.

The senator said this while on an inspection tour of projects facilitated by him in the six local governments that make up the senatorial district.

The inspection convoy ran into a contingent of youths in Abi LGA bearing weapons and squaring for battle in an ongoing war between the two communities that seem to be defying government peace initiatives.

While responding to questions from journalists on the development the senator said, “I’m sure you would notice that even while we were there, there was some build up of tension where you saw some people moving with cutlasses and den guns, and you saw also the presence of soldiers and policemen. I believe the way to solve the problem is to take development to the people.

“That is why in spite of the crisis, we are still striving to take development to the people believing that when they see development, when they see substantial progress in their lives, their lives will have so much meaning that will remove that tendency to be prone to wasting people’s lives that could be enjoyed.

“So part of the strategy to bring peace to the area is to push development to them as much as possible to see how that would bring peace to the area”.

The inspection which began today from Idomi, Mkpani, Ugep in Yakurr LGA, Ediba, Usumutong, Ebom Eburutu and Ikom LGA is expected to continue tomorrow in other LGAs comprising the senatorial district.
