Bakassi Resettlement: Niger Delta Estate To Be Commissioned In September

The supervisingMminister of Niger Delta, Arch. Dairu Ishaku has said among the housing estates being constructed by the ministry in the nine Niger Delta States, that of Ekpri Ikang in Bakassi local government area of Cross River State will first be commissioned in September this year.

According to the supervising minister of Niger Delta who spoke of the commissioning on NTA News 24’Late Edition’ monitored by CrossRiverWatch, the Bakassi housing estate which he said is 90% completed will be the first to show that the ministry’s example of housing project for the Niger Deltans is a reality.

The minister however said the challenge facing the ministry is the modus operandi on how to share the estate which is fenced, with asphalted internal roads with street lights and well guarded by private security personnel.

CrossRiverWatch had penultimate week reported that the private security operatives guarding the estate built for the displaced people of Bakassi, at Ekpri Ikang, were dissatisfied and were asking the Ministry to pay them their three months outstanding salaries.

Whether the ministry has paid these security men or not could not be ascertained at press time as efforts to get information from the ministry were unsuccessful.
