Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River on Thursday assured that the National Sports Festival (NSF) which the state would host in Calabar in November 2014 would be open and transparent.
Imoke told newsmen in Calabar that the festival would be an excellent sports outing in Nigeria.
He said this was because sports, as a symbol of unity, instilled discipline and determination in young men and women.
“Sports create discipline, and it builds the strength of our young people for the future.
“It is also a tool for unity, and our young ones must understand their roles by being disciplined.
“Participating states must not buy players who will win medals for them. The festival is open, and it will be interesting and transparent,’’ the governor assured.
Imoke urged parents and all stakeholders to encourage their wards to always participate in sports activities.
